Bible Banqueting Published!
My book, Bible Banqueting: Personal Bible Study to Deepen Fellowship with God is now published.
I call it Bible Banqueting because the Bible is like a big feast with so much to try. It’s something God has prepared before us.
I wrote it because I wanted to help others encounter the greatness of God through Bible study like I have. I was in something called the National Bible Bee as a kid and teenager, which involves Bible study and memorization. I got experience studying the Bible through that, and I had unspeakably amazing times with God as I prayed and sought Him. I can’t picture my life without that time. It was indispensible.
In addition to learning some Bible exercises from the Bible Bee and from other people, I’ve made up some of my own. There are a variety in Bible Banqueting.
The vast majority of the time I’m reading the Bible, though, I’m not doing a certain exercise. I just read it and worship God, and He shows me things from it. It’s not about a plan or an exercise; it’s about God. It’s about God being real to you. It’s about knowing He’s present with you in His holiness.
Bible study exercises are just helpful to get us into the Bible and help us notice things and dwell on it. Doing a lot of set, planned Bible study exercises when I was younger was a foundation for the rest of my life, and I like to do them sometimes now. So I’m saying they’re helpful if they’re helpful. Whatever it takes to get into the Bible and fellowship with God.
Bible Banqueting is not a book intended to necessarily be read from front to back. There’s an introduction you can read, and after that, you can just look around and pick a Bible study exercise to do. Most of the exercises are for studying passages. You choose what passage you want to do an exercise on.
Thanks to my mom for formatting the book and letting me talk through it with her!
